Leonard Shelby age 70, of Brockton went home to be with his Lord on October 21, 2017.On May 06, 1942, Leonard was born to Pervis Shelby and Irma (Lee) Shelby in Rose Hill, MS. From birth, Leonard or "Lenny” as he was widely known, had an abundance of humor and love for life.
Leonard was happiest when he could go fishing with those he loved. He had a heart of gold and was the type of person that would give someone in need the clothes off his back.
In his early years, Leonard worked at Richard's Paving and Patriots Paving of Pembroke.
Leonard enjoyed listening to Southern Blues and loved participating in family gatherings especially family reunions.
His physical presence on earth has come and gone, but he will live on eternally with his savior Jesus Christ, where he will feel the warmth of his love, see the beauty of his soul and hear the ring of his laughter in our ears forever.
Leonard Shelby, is predeceased by his parents: Irma Shelby and Pervis Shelby. His late Brothers: Wycluff, Larry Shelby of Rose Hill,MS, John Shelby of Brockton. Late Sister Lily Pearl Shelby of Brockton. Late Children: Lisa Simmons, Larry Purnell Tagger of Brockton, and Debbie Readus of Boston. The late Edna Simmons of Brockton, longtime companion; Siblings: Irma Jean Shelby for Rose Hill MS. Children: Leonard Shelby Readus Jr and Richard Simmons of Brockton, Patricia Tagger, Michelle Jean-Pierre and Erica Simmons of Brockton. 25 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, along with long time friend Andrew Bender of Brockton a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
He made a difference in the lives of so many. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Celebration of Life Service Sunday October 29, 2017 2:30 -3:30pm at 752 Oak Street Seventh Day Adventist Church. Repass will follow at the Enterprise Club, 224 Clinton St, Brockton, MA 02302, from 3:30 – 6 pm.
