Jose Sousa Chaves, age 79 of Taunton, passed away on October 19, 2017 at Morton Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Filomena de Chaves.
Jose was born in Santa Maria, Azores, a son of Virginia Sousa Chaves and the late Jacinto Chaves.
Before retirement, Mr. Chaves was employed as a maintenance man at Dyecraftsmen and also performed masonry work. He enjoyed taking daily morning and afternoon walks, tending to his gardens and grape vines, playing card games, visiting Plymouth Harbor and spending time with his grandchildren.
Besides his loving wife Filomena and his mother Virginia, Jose is survived by his children, Dennis Chaves and wife Suzzette of East Taunton, Edward Chaves and wife Lesa of Raynham, grandfather of Brian, Brett, and Jesse and step grandfather to Andrew and Eric. He was also the brother of Manuel Chaves of Cambridge.
Mr. Chaves funeral will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 7:45 am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in Saint Anthony Church School St, Taunton.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 22nd from 4 to 7pm in the Silva Funeral Home.
