Gerard A. "Gerry" Bessette, Jr.

CHICOPEE – Gerard A. “Gerry” Bessette, Jr., 75, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, October 13, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by all of the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Holyoke on August 7, 1942, a beloved son of the late Gerard A. Bessette, Sr. and V. Reta (Machnik) Bessette. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Assumption Preparatory School and received his bachelor’s degree from Assumption College, both in Worcester and attended the University of California at Berkley. He was a college professor for many years at the University of Idaho before returning to Chicopee in 1976 where he lived the remainder of his life. Gerry was a quiet man who was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to world band radio. He leaves his loving brother, Robert A. Bessette and his wife, Simonne “Sam”, of Chicopee; and his cherished nephew, Jason Bessette and his wife, Cassandra, of East Longmeadow. In addition to his beloved parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother, Richard L. Bessette who was Called Home on June 8, 1976. His burial will be private at Sainte Rose Cemetery, Chicopee.
