Obituary

Julio Sarmiento Garcia, 80, of Ojai, CA, went to be with the Lord on October 2, 2017 in his home. He was holding hands with his loving wife and surrounded by his family. Julio was born in Santa Paula, CA to Gabriel and Antonia Garcia on July 21, 1937.
Julio is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margarette Garcia; son Eddie Velasquez; daughter Edwina Garcia (Pat); brother Manuel Garcia (Rachel); brother Tony Garcia (MaryAnne); sister Marie Arroyo aka Delia (Jess); sister Linda Garcia (Anita); grandchildren Denita, Justin, Robert (Tiffany), Daniel, Angelica (Michael), Hunter, Claire; and great grandchildren Aubrey, Roslyn; and numerous God children.
He was a proud veteran. He enlisted into the Army Branch on January 30, 1957 and served for 3 years. During his service he was stationed in Germany. Upon leaving the military, he began his career in construction. He was a union member of Cement Mason’s local #600. His skills led him to be an incredible craftsman and never afraid to try something new. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Margarette. She previously had two children that he raised and loved as his own. 9 months after they were married they had a beautiful daughter, Edwina. He rebuilt his own home in Ojai, CA and had a real love for creating the beautiful home for his wife. He loved to host parties at his home for all his friends and family.
Julio had a passion for music, playing the guitar and singing Las Manianitas, a traditional Spanish birthday song. Julio and his wife called their loved ones on their birthdays to sing the tradition song every year. He enjoyed starting his day with the Rosary and reading his bible, and later on working in his garden.
His accomplishments included being a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. For several years, Julio and his wife were part of a Marriage Ministry called Marriage Encounter. He was Eucharistic Minister, which led his to be a large part of Jail Ministry.
He is preceded in death by his parents Gabriel and Antonia; son Mitchel; brother Joe; brother John; sister Lilly; sister Daria; nephews Monchito Hernandez, Rudy Garcia; grand-dogger Pluto and great grand-dogger Vicious.
We’d like to thank Dr. Carl Gross for his care of Julio Garcia the last 25 years. We would also like to thank all the caregivers, especially Benita Flores and Mariana Zendejas.
