Esther R. (Majgier) Asselin

CHICOPEE – Esther R. (Majgier) Asselin, 87, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, October 2, 2017. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born at home in Chicopee on July 30, 1930, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph J. and Margaret R. (Freitag) Majgier. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School and lived in Chicopee for most of her life. She was last employed as a Bookkeeper at the former Rubin Brothers in Springfield and retired in 1982. She was a 45-year member of the North American Family Campers Association and a longtime member of Pioneer Valley Chapter 8. For their many years of dedicated service, the 2013 Camping Show in West Springfield was dedicated to Esther and her late husband, Bob. She was a longtime communicant of the former Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee where she was a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne. Following the closing of her beloved church, she became a faithful communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Robert J. “Bob” Asselin, Sr. who was Called Home on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2017. They were married on March 31, 1951 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 65 years of happiness together. She was also predeceased by her loving son, Robert J. “Bobby” Asselin, Jr. who was Called Home on June 27, 2015; and her dear sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion Majgier, Doris Hamm and her husband, James, and Barbara Baruffaldi and her husband, Peter. She leaves her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Darlene M. Dout and her husband, Alan, of Chicopee; her cherished grandchildren, Robert J. Dout and his wife, Jennifer, Jason A. Dout and his wife, Amanda, and Kimberly Dout; her cherished great-granddaughters, Olivia and Aubrey Dout; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jacqueline Poirier and her husband, James, Lucille Archambault, Donald Asselin and his partner, Lucy, and Francis Asselin and his wife, Kathy; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Asselin and Majgier families. She also leaves her beloved dog, Buddy who was her constant companion. Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 12 noon), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
