Obituary

Betty (Nicey) Baxter of Boston, Massachusetts. Born Betty Williams on November 28, 1923 to the late Bob and Maggie Williams in Glennville, Georgia. She was the youngest girl of 12 children. Her life was a life of love, love for God, love for her family and love for the ministry. At an early age, her mother prompted her to leave Glennville to pursue a better life. She left and went to Mobil Alabama working as a governess. She then moved to Atlanta, Georgia and with the great migration moved to Detroit, Michigan where she met her soon to be husband and true love, Parnell Baxter. As she would say, “he’d chase after me everywhere I went.” They migrated together from South Carolina, Harlem, N.Y, and then finally Boston. They married on February, 2, 1948 at St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church by the late Reverend Kelly. She became a Christian in January 1952 at New Hope Baptist church. The loved the Lord and when she gave her life to Christ she never looked back. Sister Baxter and Brother Parnell Baxter first started having prayer in their kitchen on 29 Rutland Street in 1948. That was the birthing of the church. When Sister Baxter was having a child, a nurse told her about another Betty on Monroe Street in Dorchester, MA. Mother went and introduced herself to Mrs. Betty Brown and they became best friends for life (they never had an argument). God was orchestrating his plan and the beginning of Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Boston, MA. Brother Baxter was asked to teach the progressive Bible class and later asked to become pastor. Sister Baxter was a prophetess and would always cater to everyone
and all the events at the church. Sister Baxter became Co-Pastor along with The Rev. George D Bullock Sr. of The Mt Calvary Baptist, in 2010 after the passing of her husband Parnell Baxter. We will all miss you and love and your work will go on. Sister Betty Baxter is survived by her brother Carl Williams who is 97 years old from Sarasota, Florida. She is survived by her children, Janis and Reverend Joe Williams of Medford N.Y. George Parnell, John and Charlene Baxter of Boston, Gwendolyn Baxter of Boston, Donna of Boston, Mary and Gordon Russell of Medford, Timothy and Marlene Baxter of Syracuse N.Y, Margaret and the late Scott Davis of Boston, Solomon and Jennifer Baxter of Rhode Island, Norma-Jean and the late Reverend William Millerof Ludowicci, Georgia, Chris and Felicia Baxter of Medford, Jason Baxter of Boston, Mark and Sharon Russell of Maryland, David and Myrna Russell of Florida.
