Died at St. Paul's Monastery on September 15, 2017, having lived and ministered as a Benedictine Sister for 73 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Catherine (Lambrecht); brothers Lawrence, Alphonse, Florian, Rufinus, Gerhardt and Stanley; sisters Angeline (Schmidt), Josephine (Sis), and Sister Nathalie (Cecilia). After her first vows in 1944, Sister Bertha began a career in education. Her ministry took her to elementary schools in Gilman, Hastings, St. Bernard's in St. Paul, Assumption in Richfield and St. Philip's in Litchfield, coming home to the monastery in 1982 to minister in the kitchen. She served as sacristan for more than 22 years. Sister Bertha is survived by her nieces and nephews and by the Sisters, Oblates and Benedictine Associates of St. Paul's Monastery. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 19 at ST. PAUL'S MONASTERY, 2675 Benet Road, Maplewood. Visitation on Monday, September 18 at 4:00 pm with Vigil at 7:00 pm at the Monastery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Monastery.
