Obituary

Gertrude T. Rene, 87, of Woonsocket died Friday September 8, 2017 at Hope Hospice Care of RI in Providence. She was the loving wife of the late Jean L. Rene.
Born and raised in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Albany and Regina (Bruneau) Bergeron. Mr. & Mrs. Rene raised their family at numerous military postings all over the country and around the world.
In her later years she returned to the Northern Rhode Island area residing in North Smithfield, Chepachet and finally coming full circle back to Woonsocket. Mrs. Rene was employed at the Friendly Home for many years before retiring in 1992.
She was a communicant of All Saints Parish. In earlier years she was active at Sacred Heart Parish in Fairmount as a Eucharist minister, parish volunteer and helped to organize the parish centennial program. She was also a member of St. Eugene’s Parish in Chepachet. Along and with her late husband she attended functions and activities with the Knights of Columbus.
Gertrude enjoyed bowling; she played a skilled hand of cards and was an astute bingo player.
Gertrude will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. A kind, friendly, classy and dignified lady; she made her thoughts known and her voice heard in her own unique way.
She is survived by two sons Marc Rene and his wife Brenda of Chepachet and Paul Rene of Warren, two daughters Celeste Lemay and her husband Michael of Sturbridge, MA and Susan Hairgrove and her husband Doug of Odem, Texas. She was the mother of the late Michel J. Rene. She was the sister of the late Lucien Bergeron, Helena Tardie, Cecile Forget and Rita Lacroix. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren Christopher and Matthew Rene, Danielle Vornkahl, Ashley Spradley, and Holly Kortemeier, 2 great-grandchildren Hartley and Slade and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:00 am in All Saints Church, Rathbun St. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis TN 381056 or www.stjude.org.
