Obituary

Matulis, Richard J. of Roslindale and Milton, passed away on September 6, at age 88.
Dick was born in Dorchester to Stephen and Domicele Matulis, formerly of Lithuania. He graduated from Boston Latin School (1946), earned two degrees from Boston College (1950 and 1955), and served in the U.S. Army. Dick worked at National Shawmut Bank and then enjoyed a 37-year career at the Federal Reserve Bank. Over the years, Dick was a dedicated volunteer, particularly in Sacred Heart Parish and the Parkway Little League. In his retirement, he belonged to the Dedham Men’s Club and Originally from Dorchester group. Most recently, he was an active participant in the Fuller Village community, where he was serving as president of the Fuller Village Residents’ Association and was a regular at bocce and trivia. Dick will be remembered for his love of family, his poetry to commemorate special occasions, a great sense of humor, and genuine kindness. He enjoyed sports (especially BC football and hockey), classical music, books, travel, and writing for Heartbeats community newspaper. Additionally, he was proud of his Lithuanian heritage. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Joan (Hennessey) Matulis and their children: Stephen and his wife Edith Adams of Needham; Richard, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Charlotte, NC; Mary Shaver and her husband Sam of Chapel Hill, NC; John and his wife Sharon of Canton; Denise DeLucia and her husband Richard of Walpole. Loving Gramp to Christina and Stephen Matulis, Katie Adams, Catherine and Elizabeth Matulis, Courtney Stone, Erin Harrington, Elana and Brendan Matulis, and Brooke, Kaitlyn, and Ryan DeLucia. Great-grandfather to Kelsey and Harlan Stone. Cherished uncle and friend to many. Predeceased by his sisters Florence Woloschuk and Bertha Matulis.

Visiting Hours on Sunday, September 10, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St., West Roxbury.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 11, at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Lower Church, Roslindale. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony Shrine, 100 Arch St., Boston, MA 02110 or to Sacred Heart Memorial Fund, 169 Cummins Hwy., Roslindale, MA 02131.
