William Francis Burt
Air Force veteran; age 77

After a courageous battle with leukemia, Bill passed away on Wed., Sept. 5 at the Veterans Administrative Hospital in West Roxbury with family members present.
A proud Air Force veteran during the Vietnam era, he proudly served with the USAF Security Service for over three years.
He was born and raised in Lynn, Mass. and graduated from Lynn Trade and later, the University of Massachusetts in Boston thanks to the GI Bill.
He had a number of successful sales jobs, travelling nationally and internationally over the years. He ended his illustrious career as the general manager of ATI in Peterborough, N.H.
He always said his legacy will always be his family first, along with the time he served for the USAF.
One of his passions, later in life, was his relationship with his grandchildren, including his attendance at dozens of games and school activities.
An avid golfer, he started playing as a junior at Happy Valley Golf Course in Lynn. He enjoyed playing golf his entire life, having a son that still plays professionally in south Florida.
Bill was son of the late Clayton J. Burt and Ursula (Pierce) Burt, and beloved husband of Beatrice Torney-Burt. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph A. Burt. Devoted father to Willam F. Burt Jr. and his wife, Mary of North Andover; Meredith T. Bunker and her husband, Steven, of Topsfield; Gerard C. Burt of North Palm Beach, Florida; Christopher J. Burt and Ellen Yameen Burt of Andover; Michael A. Burt of Gloucester; and Keith J. Burt of Boca Raton, Florida; Also survived by six grandchildren; Craig J. Bunker of Minneapolis; Dr. Drew Bunker of Cambridge; Trent D. Bunker of Topsfield; Maxwell J. Burt of North Andover; Caroline Burt of North Palm Beach, Fla.; and Scarlet Burt of Andover.
Bill is also survived by the children of his wife, Beatrice; Catherine M. Ponte and her husband David, of Pembroke; Kerry A. Newcomb and her husband David of Milton; and four grandchildren, Michael Ponte and Caitlin Ponte of Pembroke, Danielle Newcomb and Kyle Newcomb of Milton.
He is also survived by brothers Robert Burt of Swampscott and Alfred Burt of Delaware; and sister Mary Cameron and her husband Tom of New Hampshire, Kathleen O'Neil and her husband Bob of Lynn, and Barbara White her husband Billy of Oxford, Mass. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass with a celebration of his life for family and friends will be at The Chapel at Merrimack College in North Andover on Saturday at 11 a.m.
