Janet Mildred (Murray) Moore

CHICOPEE - Janet Mildred (Murray) Moore, 86, of Chicopee, entered into Eternal Life peacefully on Sunday evening, September 3, 2017, surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on August 5, 1931, a beloved daughter of the late Percy Townley Murray and Mildred Louise (Osborne) Murray. She was raised in Springfield, graduated in 1949 from the High School of Commerce and moved to Chicopee in 1960. She was employed for over 20 years as an Underwriter at the Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company in Springfield and retired in 1992. Janet was a devout Christian and was an active member of the Church in the Acres in Springfield serving faithfully for over 55 years. She served her parish on numerous boards and committees including the Board of Trustees, Board of Directors, Property Board, Diaconate Board, Pastoral Relations Committee, Pastoral Search Committee, New Sanctuary Building Committee, Christian Education Board, Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School leader, Social Relations Committee, Church Development Committee and Bible studies. She was an organizer of the annual church volunteer team fundraiser at the Vermont Building at the Big E Cold Hollow Cider Mill for eight years. Janet took great delight in knitting preemie baby hats for Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, each bringing a smile to her face. Her lifelong relationship with Christ brought her joy and peace and she was blessed to know many faithful loving Christians. In her retirement years, she enjoyed the Chicopee Senior Center's many activities with dear friends with whom she enjoyed knitting, jewelry making, Bingo and bus trips. She especially enjoyed playing the piano and being a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching with her late husband, Bill, in their home during their retirement years and both loved vacationing in Ocean Park, Maine for over 35 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William F. Moore who was Called Home on December 18, 2009. They were married on August 23, 1980 at the Church in the Acres and were blessed with 29 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her cherished twin grandchildren, David and Laura Feyre; her three dear brothers, Kenneth Murray and wife, Barbara, Earl Murray and Carl Murray; her dear sister, Doris Fabry and husband, Edmund; her dear brother-in-law, Stanley Hanks; and her two dear cousins, Dorothy Upton and Chet Sweeney. She leaves her loving daughters, Cynthia E. Mazzaferro and husband, Thomas, of Cheshire, CT, Susan J. Feyre and husband, Thomas, of Chicopee, Janet C. Dionne-McCarthy and husband, Robert C. Dionne, of Ludlow, Joni A. Conroy and husband, Jeffrey, of Hampden and Deborah L. Samwell of Westfield; and their late father, John F. Streit, Jr. who was Called Home on December 22, 2015; her two step-sons, Roy Moore and wife, Paula, and Robert Moore and children. In addition, she leaves her cherished grandchildren, Thomas J. Mazzaferro and wife, Nicole, Daniel M. Mazzaferro, Rachel Jan Scannell and husband, Patrick, Lisa S. Feyre, Alyssa Janet McCarthy, Meghan V. McCarthy, Spencer Conroy and wife, Jamie, Taylor Conroy and wife, Tessa, Landon Conroy and Lindsay Cushing; her cherished great-granddaughter, Lilia Nicole Mazzaferro; her cherished sister, Marjorie L. Hanks; her dear brother, Roy Murray; her two dear sisters-in-law, Doris Murray and Ruth Murray; her dear cousin, Edith Sweeney; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Jan’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to her supportive and loving doctors, nurses and hospice team. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning, September 13, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church in the Acres, 1383 Wilbraham Road, Springfield, MA 01119. Her Committal Service will immediately follow the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Shriner's Hospital for Children Springfield Unit, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
