SPRINGFIELD - Ellen M. Murphy, 74, of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, September 3, 2017. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on March 23, 1943, a beloved daughter of the late John Francis Murphy and Julia Sheila (Walsh) Murphy. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. She furthered her education at the Providence School of Nursing and, upon graduating, began her nursing career as a Registered Nurse. Ellen was known by many at Baystate Medical Center as a wonderful, caring nurse to many of her patients. She was proud of her long career at Baystate Medical Center and was especially proud of her reserved parking space with her name on it. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her parents and brother. She leaves her loving brother, John F. Murphy, Jr. of Springfield with whom she lived; her three cherished cousins, Theresa Desmarais of Agawam, Daniel Donovan of Maryland and Dennis Ellis of New York. In addition, Ellen leaves her many cherished grand cousins and numerous relatives both here and in Ireland. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Committal Service on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 12 noon at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109 in Saint Timothy section. There are no visiting hours. Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
