Staff Sergeant Joseph W. Connors died Wednesday, August 23, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Staff Sergeant Alexis M. (Dudley) Connors formerly of North Potomac, Maryland, his parents William and Ellen Connors of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, and sister Bridget Connors as well as uncle Thomas W. Crowley and wife Anne of Orleans, MA, aunt Deborah Queenan of Naples, FL, and aunt Mary Katherine Tamash of Barnstable, MA and cousins.
Joseph graduated from Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School in 2012 and enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 28, 2012. After graduating basic military training at Lackland AFB, he attended and graduated the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal to become an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician. As an EOD technician, Staff Sergeant Connors was responsible for locating, identifying, neutralizing, and disposing of hazardous explosive, chemical, biological and nuclear items.
His duties included US Secret Service and State Department protection details for the President of the United States, Vice President of the United States, and other dignitaries. Staff Sergeant Connors had been previously assigned to Hill Air Force Base, Utah, Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, and was serving at Edwards Air Force Base, California at the time of his passing.
Staff Sergeant Connors earned the Air Force Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster. Moreover, he was selected as the 412th Test Wing Airman of the Year for 2016, recognized as the top airmen out of 1,100 other airmen in the 412th Test Wing, and he graduated from Airman Leadership School in 2017 as a Distinguished Graduate.
Graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, 163 North Cary St., Brockton, MA at 11 AM Friday, September 1, 2017. There will be an open celebration of life held Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 12-4 PM at Skippy’s Pier One Restaurant, 17 Neptune Lane, South Yarmouth, MA’
