SOUTH HADLEY - Adelino "Andy" Ribeiro, 90, of South Hadley and a former resident of Sterling Street in the Glenwood section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, August 28, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at Renaissance Manor on Cabot in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Holyoke on September 15, 1926, a beloved son of the late Casimiro and Maria (Lopes) Ribeiro. He was raised in Portugal and returned to the United States in 1944 to Bristol, Connecticut. He lived most of his life in Springfield where he married his wife and raised his family. He later moved to South Hadley in 2003 where he lived for the remainder of his life. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Private. He was very proud to serve his country. He was employed for 42 years at Monsanto Chemical Company in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield and retired as a stock controller and forklift operator in 1988. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and was one of the oldest lifetime members of the Portuguese American Club in Chicopee. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Local 288 at Monsanto and a lifetime blood donor with the American Red Cross. Andy enjoyed spending time outdoors and loved animals. He could always be found relaxing outside feeding the birds. Above all, he loved and treasured spending time with his loving family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Alzira P. "Gee Gee" (Paulo) Ribeiro who was Called Home on May 3, 2004. They were married on May 15, 1954 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 49 years of happiness together. He leaves his loving son, Dr. Paul L. Ribeiro and his wife, Shannon, of Somerville, NJ; his loving daughter, Patricia R. Tabin and her husband, Alan, of South Hadley; his four cherished granddaughters whom he adored, Olivia and Chloe Ribeiro and Brittany and Brianna Tabin; his two dear sisters, Marcia Costa of West Springfield and Leonilde Amaral of Chicopee; his dear brother, Joaquim Ribeiro and his wife, Maria, of Chicopee; his dear sister-in-law, Irene (Paulo) Ribeiro of Ludlow; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Ribeiro and Paulo families. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his seven dear brothers, Americo, Manuel, Anacleto, Jose, Alfredo, Francisco and Formino. His Funeral will be held on Saturday morning, September 2, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His Burial with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. For those who prefer, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Friends of the Soldiers' Home, Inc., PO Box 1338, Holyoke, MA 01041.
