BELCHERTOWN – Ivan N. Trombley, 84, of Pine Valley Plantation in Belchertown and a former longtime resident of Stewart Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, August 26, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Ellenburg, New York on May 23, 1933, a beloved son of the late Ernest and Delia (Bushey) Trombley. He was raised and educated in Ellenburg and enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country during the Korean War and attained the rank of Corporal. He received the Korean Service Medal with Four Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Following his military service, he returned to Ellenburg and moved to the Willimansett section of Chicopee in 1964. He later moved to Aldenville where he lived for many years before moving to Pine Valley Plantation in 2007. He was last employed at U.S. Tsubaki in Holyoke and retired in 1996. Previously, he had worked at Data Documents and Reynolds Paper, both in Holyoke. He was a former communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and currently was a communicant of Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Belchertown. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8793 and the Knights of Columbus Council 4441, both in Ellenburg, NY. He enjoyed cooking and loved canning tomatoes and cucumbers. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Elaine I. (Charette) Trombley. They were married on November 12, 1955 at Saint Edmund Church in Ellenburg, NY and were blessed with over 61 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving children, Karen A. Schnauber and her husband, Robert, and Lynn M. Pouliot and her husband, Brian, all of Chicopee, Kevin F. Trombley and his wife, Heather, of Ludlow, and Michelle T. Smith of Chicopee; his twelve cherished grandchildren, Jeremy Schnauber and his wife, Melissa, Rebecca Schnauber and her companion, Kevin Pouliot, Eric Schnauber and his wife, Ashley, Melissa Pouliot, Justin Pouliot and his wife, Jennifer, Jonathan Trombley, Sara Trombley and her companion, Dan Manley, Zachary Trombley, Joshua Danko and Benjamin, Kacie and Jadyn Smith; his eleven cherished great-grandchildren, Rori and Mason Schnauber, Gavin and Addison Pouliot, Brantley Schnauber, Chloe and Skyler Pouliot and Sumer Cote, Emma Pouliot, and Dayton and Quinton Danko; his dear sister, Bernice Trombley of Ellenburg, NY; his dear brother, Alger Trombley and his wife, Sue, of Dayton, OH; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Trombley and Charette families. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his eleven dear brothers and sisters. His Funeral will be held on Friday morning, September 1, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
