Dr. Antonio E. Layug, age 78 of Sharon passed away August 17th at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Dr. Layug graduated from University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in the Philippines. Dr. Layug was a Cardiologist and had a long career with the VA Medical Centers in Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury and Bedford before retiring. Beloved husband of Dr. Alicia B. (Bering). Father of Larisa Layug and her husband Alexander Sion of Brooklyn, NY and Anthony Layug of Florida. Grandfather of Alexander A. and Andrew R. Sion. Son of Dr. Julita E. Layug of the Philippines and the late Dr. Carlos Layug. Brother of Aleli Luna and Rosario Pelayo both of the Philippines. Also survived by a large extended family including Margarita Mateo of Sharon, the Alcaraz family of Evanston, IL and the Pelayo family of CA. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Tuesday & Wednesday 6-8 pm. Funeral mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Sharon Thursday morning, August 24th, at 10 am.
