Argiro Stavroulakis

SPRINGFIELD - Argiro Stavroulakis, 82, a former longtime resident of Stockman Street in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, fell asleep in the Lord on her birthday, Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Heritage Hall in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Crete, Greece, a beloved daughter of the late John and Eleni (Fragakis) Stavroulakis. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 16. She worked here as a seamstress and mailed money to her mother to support her family. She joined the Cretan Ladies Society in Springfield and also attended night school to learn the English language. She later became a U.S. Citizen and was able to assist her siblings and in-laws to also immigrate to America. She was a longtime communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, bingo games, playing cards and listening to her Greek music. Above all, Argiro was a devout mother, grandmother and sister who showered her family with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves her five loving children, Irene Steltzer and her husband, Paul, of Sanford, ME, Emmanuel Papamarkakis and his wife, Jessica, of Pennsylvania, Eleni Bouzakis and her husband, Elias, of Farmington, CT, John Papamarkakis and his partner, Shawna, of Ludlow and Barbara Papamarkakis of Southbridge; her six cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Alysha Steltzer, Christina Clark and her husband, Tom, Karissa Steltzer and Katerina, Costas and Niko Bouzakis; her two sisters, Irene Tzoutzourakis of Thesaloniki, Greece and Maria Frantzeskakis of Springfield; her brother, John Stavroulakis of Crete, Greece; her brother-in-law, Emmanuel Milidakis of Springfield; and her many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her three sisters, Georgia Michelakis, Dimitra Milidakis and Electra Stavroulakis; and her three brothers, Emmanuel and Niko Stavroulakis and their unnamed infant brother. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Friday morning, August 18, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, (Please meet directly at the Cathedral), 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. Her burial will follow the Funeral Service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 Saint George Road, Springfield, MA 01104 or to the Cretan Ladies Prodos Society, 35 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
