CHICOPEE – Roger D. Forget, 89, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, July 27, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on McKinstry Avenue in the Aldenville section of Chicopee, graduated from Saint Joan of Arc Elementary School and Chicopee Trade High School, and was a lifelong resident of Aldenville where he built his home for his family. He furthered his education and attended the Chicago School of Woodworking. He owned and operated Roger’s Woodworking and Cabinet Shop in Aldenville for many years where he specialized in custom cabinetry. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where he was a member of the League of the Sacred Heart. An avid Nascar fan, he enjoyed attending the Daytona 500 races in Daytona, FL and also collected die-cast Nascar race cars. He loved traveling and visited Cape Cod, Atlantic City, NJ and Wildwood, NJ often. Following his retirement, he and his wife, Alice, wintered in Daytona, FL for many years. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Alice P. (Piotte) Forget. They were married on the anniversary of his birthday, June 10, 1950 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville and were blessed with over 67 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving children, Roger D. Forget, Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of the Sagamore Beach Village of Bourne, MA and Marie A. Grimaldi and her husband, Bob, of Bristol, CT; his 12 cherished grandchildren, Renee, Nicole, Yvonne and Samantha Forget, Sonia Rosado and her husband, John, Lilly Forget, Meghan and Jillian Dever, Stephanie and Andrew Grimaldi, and Devin and Michael Brito; his several cherished great-grandchildren; his dear brother, Henri Forget and his wife, Sylvia, of Granby; his dear brother-in-law, Maurice Piotte of Aldenville; his two dear former sisters-in-law, Regina Piotte of Chicopee and Theresa Forget of Rhode Island; and his many dear nephews, nieces, godchildren, cousins, friends and extended members of the Forget and Piotte families. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother, Leo Forget. His Funeral will be held on Monday morning, July 31, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located at the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
