Janet S. (Gasse) Baxter, age 80, of West Bridgewater, died July 6, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born in Peabody and raised in Brockton, she was the baby of 16 children of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Otis) Gasse. Janet attended Brockton High School and had worked for New England Telephone and the Foxboro Company for many years.
Known to most as "Grammy" or "Janie", she loved flowers and shared her green thumb talent by helping her family in their gardens. She enjoyed making puzzles, especially ones of lighthouses. Janie also found pleasure in decorating for the holidays and finding yard sale treasures. As an admirer of birds, no bird in the neighborhood ever went without food or a bathing puddle.
Janet was the mother of Diane Shuman and grandmother of Rhonda Shuman both of Davie, FL. She selflessly raised her granddaughter Heatha Harris and was the proud great grandmother of Olivia Shannon and Cody McCourt all of Raynham. She was extremely close to her great nephew Jordan August and his son Jack both of W. Bridgewater. Janet is also survived by sisters Sally Chouinard of Falmouth, Gloria Sullivan of Marshfield and Beverly Hamilton of W. Bridgewater.
