Norton , MA,
Dear Deacon Mike and family, Unfortunately I know all to well what you are going through. I just lost my son Joseph Hall July 26th. He was only 38 and leaves behind his 15 yr old son. I have attended an Emmaus retreat for parents who have lost a child and found it very healing. I will write more to you in a note. I tried to call you several times but I lost your number from my phone. I am so sorry for your loss. We can never forget nor try to replace. Know that God has a greater good and this is what carries me. I'm watching and seeing signs of the greater good and will include him with my son and my husband (who passed the end of Nov) Donald Heim. May you and your family feel the blessings pouring over you and protecting you all.

Matt worked for me at GE Appliances during the summer prior to his Senior year. He was the best intern I ever had. Being a Wake Forest alum myself, I was proud to have him in Louisville representing Wake Forest the way he did. He was an incredibly positive person, and made everyone who he interacted with that summer a better person as well. I am so sorry for your loss. -Will Rawley

There are not enough words to describe how great Matt was. I remember the good ol days when we would chase each other around Sunday River skiing with GSR. We would play laser tag at the big adventure center or travel around New England ski racing. Matt was a gifted athlete no matter what sport he chose to follow. Matt had a positive effect on everyone and his character, smile, and courage brought out the best in everyone. I remember Mike could take the edge off any stressful ski race by cracking a couple jokes or telling us about his daily wipeout on the slopes. Matt will truly be missed and my heart felt condolences go out to Mike, Sue, and Kat. I am sure he will continue to ski on where every day is a pow day.

My son, age 26, was at Taos and on the same run just minutes before the avalanche. I cannot imagine the pain all of family is in. I find myself weeping over the loss of Matthew many times each day. Last night my son returned from Taos and when I saw him and embraced him I was overwhelmed with grief. Several have said to me “Thank God your son is safe”. Each time I reply, no! I am a man of deep faith and I do not believe somehow God favors my son or our family over yours. I am praying for you everyday. If there was any way I could be at the Mass on Saturday I would be there. I am there in spirit and in love.

We can not imagine any grief deeper than the loss of a child. At this time all we can hope for is the grace of God and the knowledge that a grief shared may be lessened by many hearts in sympathy. Our love to you all. Ken, Gretchen and family.

I was so saddened to hear that Matt had passed away. I am a resident of Seaside Villas and had the pleasure of knowing Matt, Kirsten and, of course, Bodie. Matt always had a smile on his face and worked very hard. He never showed any kind of frustration and always was willing to help. I would always see him walking Bodie along Shore Blvd in the early morning. He seemed to really appreciate the beautiful views from this property as well as the area. So sorry for your loss.
