I offer my sincere condolences to Ray’s wife Robin, his son Sean, mom Elaine and sister Patricia. I was one of the many lucky people to have Ray as a friend. We first met 45 years ago in 1976; where else but on a basketball court! We had many really intense contests as opponents in heated pick-up games and then eventually (and fortunately for me!) we were teammates. Everyone knows how great a basketball player Ray was. He was relentless and unstoppable! But in my opinion, Ray was an even finer person. He always had that warm smile, was up-beat and offered encouragement, totally unpretentious and treated everybody the same — with dignity and respect. I’m a better person for having known “Buck” at an important juncture of my life! People like Ray are few and far between! He is now gone, but will never be forgotten. R.I.P. Ray and thanks for all the memories on and off the basketball court. Rest assured your legend and legacy will live on! *MikeG.*

When I was 16 years old, I was lucky enough to play summer league ball with Ray for Rainbow Carpet in the "A" league. I was a nervous, intimidated kid who was just trying not to screw up. Ray took me under his wing and made me a better ballplayer, and more importantly, imparted his wisdom and confidence that helped me become a man. The important lessons that I learned from Ray Buckland on a steamy cement court in North Cambridge more than 40 years ago, have always stayed with me. I'm heartbroken for his wife and son, and I hope the knowledge that Ray was more proud of his family than anything else in life gives you some peace. Thanks Ray. See you on the other side.

My deepest condolences to the Buckland family. I went to Medford HS with Buck… he was Gronk before Gronk… big athletic and fun ! Just a joy to be around and spend time with. He was my Supervisor when I was a Park Instructor at Tufts Park. Many afternoon around 3pm when most of the kids had gone home… Buck would ride by and we would play wiffle ball..always Me and Anthony Cartalano against Ray and Steve Silvio The trash talk made everyone laugh… just having fun! I will miss him and his spirit and will never forget him! I want a tie breaker! One of the best! My sympathies for our very sad loss of a great human being! Praying for you all. Peace.

My condolences to Ray's Family. I met Ray at Medford High School when I was playing basketball as a Sophomore and Ray was a Senior. He was such a warm person to me. I looked up to him very much. He was a true leader and so confident! Riding the bus to an Away game to Sommerville or Peabody , Ray would be laughing and joking. He told me to sit up near him on the bus......I was just a nervous Sophomore but Ray made me feel part of the team. God Bless Him- He won't be forgotten.
