Steve was a great colleague with whom I collaborated on several artistic projects. I am so sorry. My heart is breaking.

Steve will certainly be missed by many! His students and colleagues could count on Steve to be a great teacher, listener and friend. Steve was very interested in trying new teaching strategies and was one of the first to use a competency-based approach to student learning. Our talks about teaching and learning were always welcomed and gave me confidence that our students were is great hands with Steve as their professor. He was simply a great guy!

Dear Emmett (or "Bear" as I knew you many years ago), I was so sad to read this notice. I hired your Dad many years ago at Cape Cod Academy. We liked each other immediately as we shared a birthday. I can still picture him perfectly today, and will always. He was so quietly smart and talented, gentle, kind always, and thoughtful. And how he loved you, Laurel, and life. He teamed with DiSpezio Elkus & O'Toole in the development of our nascent drama program, but I think he was the self-effacing and always considerate glue that made it all work. His memory will always bring a smile to my face. I'm a voice from the past. but you have my love and condolences. Tom Evans

I am so very sorry to hear of Stephen's passing. We were great friends, and we shared our interest in the arts always recommending movies and books to one another. He was so kind in giving me great advice since I was widowed a few years ago as he was. I so admired his devotion to Laurel throughout her illness, and now they are together again as it should be. He loved his job and his students. And he adored his son, Emmett. I will miss my dear friend.

Steve Aiello was director of the drama program at Dennis-Yarmouth regional high school on Cape Cod in the early 1990’s. In addition to directing me in several plays performed at the high school itself, he also took many of us to regional drama one-act competitions in Massachusetts. During those formative years I had just started learning guitar, and one of my greatest joys was listening to Steve recount his experiences of playing with Peter Green and B.B. King, and seeing so many of my heroes like Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Hearing his first-hand accounts of these mythical musicians was inspirational to me, and I would spend hours hanging around with Steve after rehearsals. I even bought his Fender Bassman amp that he had used in his gigging days, and played many gigs with it as I followed my own musical journey. I will always remember Steve, not just as a teacher who imparted tremendous knowledge about music and drama, but as a friend, one of my favorite people to be around.

Bear - I am so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed my time in your dad's class, whether it was sixth grade music or Upper School English. I will remember him as an enthusiastic and supportive teacher who brought his love of learning to the class. He was loved and he will be missed.
