Heartfelt condolences to the Byers family. It saddens me that I did not get to talk to you one last time. I thank you for being a part of my life and wish you peace. I will miss you more than words can express; but knowing you were greeted by the Lord, your grandparents and your uncle Mike, gives me some solace. I will carry you in my heart always. Till we meet again.

I have such fond memories of dear Johnny. Although I moved from Medford years ago Johnny kept in touch with me through the years. I remember the fun times he spent with my Chris, my nephew Ricky and I playing board games on Eliot Street (my sister Nancy Magliozzi's house). I was a single mom then and if I needed anything; Johnny would not hesitate to get on his bike and go to the store for me. Johnny was a kind soul like no other. We talked a few months ago and talked about the good times. I will always remember his laughter. My deepest sympathy to Angela his mother, John his father , Danielle his sister and Paul is brother and their family. May he Rest in Peace. Love Jo Ann Kurland

I first met John when he was a caller on my sports radio show.......I found that TED WILLIAMS was his favorite player so I quickly nicknamed him "THE KID" which made him an instant celebrity and became his "identity" throughout the city and local sports' world........I always encouraged him to go to the library, or talk to his grandfather, about Ted and gather as much information as he could so he could discuss TED with some degree of certainty with anyone......THAT'S when he found out Ted was into politics and launched John's career to make Medford a better city......anyway he could, which, naturally included his many runs for elected office....... THAT, as well as his tireless charity works with the Jimmy Fund and the Jerry Lewis Foundation over many Labor Day telethons showed me what a valiant and courageous young man young John truly was......Unfortunately there were many that didn't see it that way (to their own detriment) but that never even slowed John down......There are tons of stories I can pass on to you from the 40 plus years that I knew John.....Maybe, if some local newspaper has an interest, I just might do that....... Let me end by relating a favorite "recollection"-----"Some people enter our lives and then move on.......Now and then someone will stay and leave footprints on our hearts (that will last forever) and we will never be the same........ THAT is the best description I can give of my dear friend, John Byers (THE KID) Don't weep for him for he'll be in our hearts forever........

Given a chance Johnny would have done a great job on the city counsel or on the school Committee. He was always running for office to help others. He was a great person & will be missed.

I am truly sorry to hear about the passing of Johnny B. If you grew up in South Medford you knew Johnny Byers. He was a staple of the community. Playing sandlot ball down Spicer park during the summers, he'd be down there taking swings with his old wooden bat, excited Everytime the ball travelled over the fence. I will remember the happiness that came over him and was contagious to the one's around him. I will forever remember Johnny riding on his bike up Main Street, and my friends and I would tell out "Johnny Byers!", and that hand would reach out and he would pump that fist high in the air! My condolences to his family, and may JB rest in peace. Sincerely, Adam DeStefano (Medford resident)

I knew Johnny growing up and the passion he had for his charities. I would go door to door with him and watch as he tirelessly collected money for the Jimmy Fund. We once traveled to Boston to present a check to Chet & Natalie for his efforts. I haven't spoken to him in years but he left a lasting impression on me and I never forgot him. Rest in peace Johnny.
