My sincere condolences on the passing of Fred. He was so kind and caring to his ‘Aunt Rita ‘ and she often said Fred reminded her of her Freddy Ford. May Fred Rest In Peace with God and His Angels. Sincerely, Connie and Mike

Our deepest condolences to the family. We remember Fred most vividly from our time together in Vienna Austria. Fred and his family were beloved in the community there. One of Fred's unsung accomplishments was his service as Commissioner of the Austrian-American Baseball League, which introduced the game to many youngsters including our own. He was also a fixture in the diplomatic community where his expertise on nuclear issues enabled him to make vital contributions to US and international security. We often think of the McGoldricks and our time together in Vienna with them. We will miss him. Susan and John Lauder

Fred was an exemplary diplomat, negotiating effectively in three directions: with other countries; with other Executive Branch figures who had a role in writing his instructions; and with Congress, which had the legal authority to cause him no end of grief. He was unsurpassed in his knowledge of the subject, he knew how to craft agreement language that would further the goal of nuclear nonproliferation to the maximum extent feasible with each country, and he was a mentor and educator to the congressional staff members (and their bosses) with responsibility for evaluating proposed agreements. I knew him only professionally, but his immense humanity was evident in the care with which he treated our every concern, whether it was valid or ill-considered. Thank you, to all in his family, for sharing this wonderful man with the many people who relied on him for so long.

I am sad to learn of Fred's passing & send this sincerest message of sympathy to his family. As a nuclear nonproliferation scientist at State Department, I worked closely with Fred at the US Mission in Vienna on many peaceful cooperative arrangements. I will always recall Fred as a key player on the U.S. side as we worked tirelessly to shape nuclear policy & make an impact in so many countries. Thanks to his family for sharing him with us. He truly made a difference in what the U.S. accomplished in this area.
