John was a good friend to everyone who knew him and worked with him at Social Security. I knew John and worked with him closely in both branches of what is now OQA. He had a great personality and was always well respected for both his knowledge and his care for others. He has been sorely missed since he retired. I am deeply sorry for your loss. As a fellow “always” New Yorker I will think of him walking the beach of his beloved Far Rockaway.

I am so sorry to learn of John's passing. I had worked with John in Boston from November of 1986 until we both retired the same day, December 30, 2010. John was always thoughtful, incisive, and an Irish diplomat. He was well loved among the staff in the office. Sending prayers and love to the family as they mourn his passing. May he rest in peace. He will be sorely missed.

My heartfelt condolences go out to The Toolan Family. I had the privilege to work with John at Social Security. John was a Mentor, a Great Friend and a Great Man! John had a great deal to be proud of in his own right, but nothing made him prouder and more Happy than the time he spent with his Family. Godspeed. Rest in Peace John.

John was one of the first people in the office to greet me when I arrived in February of 2005. I will always remember his smile, kindness, humor, honesty, and welcoming nature. His post-retirement office visits always brightened my day. Please accept my deepest condolences and may all your wonderful memories bring you comfort.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a great co-worker at Social Security. We had many a laugh and great conversations. I know he will be missed by his family and many friends. It's sad to hear how much he suffered, but he is at peace now.

It was such a pleasure to know and work with John. He was my personal and political buddy at SSA and we shared many a discussion and commiseration over the years. I missed him when he retired and am saddened at his passing, but know that he had a life well lived with those dear to him.
