My deepest condolences to the Gillespie Family. You have lost a husband, a father, a brother, a grandfather, an uncle. You have lost family. And we mourn with you for that loss. When you work with each other 8 hours a day, you share food, news, laughter, anger, life events, trials & tribulations. Somehow, in certain cases, such as with our team; you are lucky enough to create a mini family with your workmates. Losing Dan kind of feels like losing family. I found this quote a while ago and kept it: "having someone entirely evaporate out of your life isn’t a sensation that can be prepared for..." Losing Dan feels just like that. Due to the pandemic, we have not all been together since March 17, 2020. Yet we talk each weekday by conference calls & we email & text back & forth, but it has not been the same. No cubicle neighborhood debates, or Monday morning weekend updates. No bus dramas regaled or lunchtime walking adventures shared, in detail. No cool photos or song lyrics floating around. It's been too quiet, for too long and now it will be silent altogether. Nope! We are not ready for this. We will miss you Dan. May God hold you close, in the palm of His hand. And yes, fine Irishman that you are, we are sure that you made it to Heaven, an hour before the devil knew you were dead. God bless. Slán go foill (pronounced slawn go foyle), meaning "Farewell for now" in Gaelic Irish.

Dan was a wonderful person. I truly enjoyed listening to his tales. He had a unique gift of gab that guaranteed there would never be a dull conversation. He was an avid photographer and always shared his camera work with everyone. He was a kind and generous man, a proud Veteran, and a true friend. I am glad I had the opportunity to raise a glass with him. He will be dearly sorely missed

Dan, my friend from the beginning of your City Hall career until now. So many laughs, so many conversations about history, 20 plus years of "current" events, about Boston, (the city we love), the US military, Anne Marie, your daughters, grandchildren, your pets, retirement. We could occasionally have opposing view points but remained friends. A "Dan conversation" always put things in perspective. You were a good man Dan and your friendship is already missed. Thank you God for giving us Dan. Love health & safety to the Gillespie family. Nancy Murray (McCulloch)

Dear Gretta & Stephen, Gretta, we were saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. Losing a parent is hard especially when it happens unexpectedly. Reading his obituary he was a good man, husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely by his large family. May you Stephen and you children be able to cope with his passing and continue to stay well. Peace be with you. Charlie & Martha Vautrain

My condolences to Dan's family and friends. I worked with Dan at the City of Boston and he always greeted me with a kind hello each morning and was pleasant to everyone he encountered. I heard of his passing today and I have a heavy heart. He was such a genuine person and will be missed so much. I was even lucky enough to see some of his photography. He had such an eye for that! I am thinking of Dan's family and friends during this challenging time. Emily
