From the Joyce girls of West Roxbury: “Coach/parkway little league gave this girl a chance (in male-dominated sport).” And, “Very nice man ... generous when our father died.” As a teen, I always felt welcome in the deli, and best sandwiches ever!

Slynes Deli was a treat on Centre St. Steve always greeted us with a smile and a hug! He will be missed dearly. Steve was a very thoughtful man. When my brother Tommy passed he was at our door with a platter and all the fixins to feed us. I will always remember him with a smile. So sorry for your loss.

From all the Foleys of 12 Meredith St. Our brother, Danny worked at Slyne’s deli for quite a while and learned a lot while there. Steve was the “mayor” of West Roxbury. His smile lit up a room and his compassion for all was always evident. May God grant him eternal rest. We send prayers for his family and friends.

We had our first home behind Slyne's on Hastings st. We would go to Slynes almost on a daily basis. Steve and his sons were the best. The store was awesome. Great food and help. My first two children grew up going to Slynes Deli. It is sorely missed. Thoughts and prayers to the Slyne Family. His presence at St. Theresa church will be missed. Another great person entering the gates of heaven. A. Fay

My condolences to Nancy, Michael, Bill and Joan Marie on your loss. May your memories of Steve/Dad stay fresh. Steve, thank you for hiring me after my lawn mowing days were over. I needed some year round work. It has been 40 plus years .... But if I close my eyes ... I can still smell the fresh “Just Delivered” Italian bread ... the powerful aromas of Baked Ham and Roast Beef (moi voi) ... the sound of voices waiting in line ... Everyone has a story. It felt like home to me ! I will leave you with one of Steve’s favorites (attached below). RIP Steve.
