I remember Mr. MacGiver fondly. He was my homeroom teacher and really took me under his wing for many years. He was a kind and understanding teacher who treated every student personally. I even babysat for his kids a few times when they were young. I don't remember all of the teachers I had at Meadowbrook and Newton South but I will always remember him. Rest in Peace,

Dear Jennifer and Christopher, your father was a legend at the Brown Junior High School. The joy and love of learning he instilled in me as a boy has stuck with me my whole life. My brothers and I registered for every one of his classes. I still remember the books we read for him, the castles we built for class projects, even his comments on the margins of term papers. I am so lucky to have passed through his classroom. He brought out the very best in us. May he rest in peace.

George McIver was a terrific and inspriring teacher. I took numerous courses with him at Meadowbrook Junior High School where he eventually became my homeroom teacher in 8th grade. I was good student with rough skeptical edge. He quickly morphed that edge into humor and we struck it off. We had a ton of fun together including engaging in daily dose of ribbing and bickering. I remember Art and Architecture, as well as a Current Events class he taught. He made us think. I distinctly recollect him regularly assigning these massive "hunt" assignments that required us to hunt down answers to a ton of the most arcane informational tidbits questions, or another similar one that made us travel throughout Newton to find 50+ architecural styles. I lapped these quests up. I wish I kept in better touch especially since I ended up in the public educational field. Condolences to his family.

Mr. MacIver was my favorite teacher at Brown Junior High School. It's difficult to pass a Victorian home with a classical triangle or ionic columns without thinking of him. Please know how many of his students he positively impacted. Thinking of you all during this time. Best, Sarah

I just this morning heard about Mr. MacIver's passing. I was lucky to have had him for a teacher and mentor at Newton South High School. His kindness and terrific sense of humor made a strong impression on me, and he respected his students' abilities in a way that made us all respect and love him in return. My condolences to your family for this tremendous loss.

I was recently going through some old papers from my school days and I found some essays and projects that I completed in Mr. MacIver’s classes. His handwriting in the margins brought back so many wonderful memories of him as a person and as a teacher. So many years have passed but I have clear recollections of how much Mr. MacIver taught me, supported me, made me laugh, and truly helped to create the person I am today. I decided to look him up and found this sad news. What a loss for education and for the world.

To Jennifer and Christopher, I’m a bit late, but just wanted to say what wonderful memories I have of your father. I was at Concord for a year in 1971/2 and my father taught math there. I think I was one of the few students to attend classes regularly (as my father was a teacher), and I really appreciated what I learned from Mr MacIver, Bob Joyce, Peter and Carole Taylor and, was it Bart and Monique? I returned to the UK to attend university and I’ve been here permanently since 1975. I remember babysitting for you, Christoper. Just wanted to say that I think of your father often these days. All the best to you.
