Obituary

Barbara A. (Turpin) Place, 90, of Freetown, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Nemasket Healthcare Center. She was the wife of the late Walter L. Place.

Mrs. Place was born in Freetown, daughter of the late Frederick L. Turpin and the late Gladys E. (Howes) Machiel and had been a lifelong resident of the town. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an assembler for the former Alberox Co., New Bedford. She enjoyed knitting, reading puzzles and going to the casino. She loved her trips to Florida with Kevin & Vivian, Kay & Linda and Beverly & Freddie. She especially cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Place was the matriarch of her family, the glue that kept everyone together.

Survivors include her 3 sons: Walter F. Place and his wife Jan of Freetown, George E. Place and his wife Gloria of Woonsocket, RI and Stewart W. Place and his wife Barbara of NH; 5 daughters: Brenda L. Cunningham and her husband Craig of Acushnet, Karen E. Cole of Rochester, Helen E. Medeiros of Freetown, Barbara Place of Freetown and Betsy Cornell and her husband Joseph of Freetown; 3 sisters: Barbara F. Place of Dartmouth, Gladys Place of FL and Beverly Howe of FL; 19 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 2 nephews: Frederick Turpin of LA and Walter Alteriso of MA.

She was the sister of the late Frederick Turpin, Alice Mathias and Margaret Pittsley and aunt of the late James Turpin and Wayne Alteriso.

Graveside service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Rural Cemetery, New Bedford at 11:00 A.M.
