Gertrude (Stibenne) Melanson, 98, of New Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Alden Court. She was the wife of the late Joseph W. Melanson.
Mrs. Melanson was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Isidore and Dora (LaBreche) Stibenne and had been a lifelong resident of the city. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a receptionist in the sports department for the former SMU, now UMASS Dartmouth. She enjoyed playing the piano and listening to 1420 WBSM radio. She was an avid Red Sox fan. Mrs. Melanson believed in living simply and enjoying the little things in life.
She is survived by her children: Wayne Melanson of New Bedford and her daughter: Joan Souto of New Bedford; her 2 grandchildren: Eric Clavin and Katie Souto; and her great granddaughter: Mya.
