Obituary

New Bedford – Joseph C. Araujo, 87, of New Bedford passed away April 28, 2019 at Boston Medical Center.

Mr. Araujo was born in Madeira, Azores, Portugal, son of the late Joao and Inez (Cortez) Araujo, and resided in New Bedford most of his life. He worked as a self-employed grocer until his retirement. A 30 year member of the Calvary Pentecostal Church, he was the lead deacon of the church, prayer group and church ministries. The ministries he was involved in included the prison ministry at Bristol County Sheriff’s Department in Dartmouth and within the Ash Street Jail in New Bedford. He was also a member of the International Gideon’s Organization who passed out Bibles and spread the Work of God throughout the United States.

Survivors include his brothers: Angelo Araujo and Roy Araujo; and nieces & nephews: Rachel DaCosta, Mark Piva, George Piva, Mike Araujo, Alexis Wasilowski, Angela Feltman, Paul Araujo and John Araujo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Calvary Pentecostal Church, 33 Braley Road, East Freetown. An interment service will follow at 12:30 P.M. at the Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet
