Obituary

John J. Costa, 93, of Westport, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Manuel J. and Mary (Estrillo) Costa.

Mr. Costa was born in Fall River and had been a lifelong resident of Westport. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated Twin Maple Dairy Farm, Westport. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Club on Sodom Rd., Westport and the Summit Grove Holy Ghost Club, Dartmouth. Mr. Costa was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport and he enjoyed going to cattle auctions.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Southcoast VNA for the compassionate care they gave to Mr. Costa.

Survivors include his son: Peter J. Hauch of Germany; his 2 daughters: Gail M. Menard and her husband Hank of Westport and Doreen A. Speaker of ME; 2 sisters: Mary Medeiros and Adelaide Martin, both of Westport; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his special friend: Beatrice "Pee Wee" Lima of Swansea; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Jenny Pacheco, Evelyn Peixe, Beatrice Connors, Albertina Santos, Alice Rego and George Costa.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, December 8, 2017 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-8 P.M.

Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
