I first met Joe Alves when I was a new member of the St. Botolph Club in 1989. He was welcoming, great fun to be with, and we had Pittsfield, Massachusetts in common, I having been born there in 1936 and he serving in community service with Mrs. Gladys Brigham. When my nephew Lawrence K.(Biff) Miller II was looking for a priest to christen his children in Brookline, I 'volunteered' Joe,and he did lovely services for all three, and came and blessed their house. Deepest sympathy to his family and love from the Millers, Margo, Biff & Jenn, and Ruby, Lawson, and Charlie. 20 October 2017Posted: 10/20/2017 by Margo Miller of Boston, Massachusetts, USA Father Alves was such a good friend to the late George Govostes who was blind. They went on several trips to London and Portugal. He was very supportive when George was at the MGH with a stroke. Father would walk over every day or so and see George. He was a kind and caring man. He will be missed but is at peace.Posted: 10/21/2017 by Bruce Connelly of Winchester, MA, United States Father Joe was my father's cousin. My father was also Joseph Alves (Manny Alves' third son). I remember Father Joe and Sis from the feasts in Mattapoisett when I was very young. My dad spoke very fondly of Father Joe and told me of the many wonderful things he did for his family and community. Father Joe arranged a trip to Portugal around the time of my parent's 25th wedding anniversary (1975). My parents went and had a wonderful time. I'm sure without Father Joe they never would have embarked on such a trip.
My condolences to his family on their loss.Posted: 10/23/2017 by Nancy Alves Martin of Ashford, CT, USA
