CONDOLENCES (GuestBook)

Gene was a wonderful person and good friend growing up. We loved going to watch his bands and he always was the life of the party with such a great smile and full of life. God Bless his soul and my deepest sympathy to all of the Spear family in this time of sorrow.

Gene was hired into my band Locomotion and immediately his voice and front man abilities took the band to a new level. His infectious laugh and sense of humor gave the band a personality boost as well. He quickly became a good friend to my brother and I. He was always positive and had a nack for taking uncomfortable situations and elevating the mood - diffusing whatever the controversy was. I'll never forget the parties at his house. He would put music on and all of us would sing harmony parts along with the songs. It was so much fun. He never wanted us to leave those parties (even though we had long rides back to CT). Gene had us belly laughing on the very long ride to upstate Maine on a white water rafting trip. It made the ride seem like it took only a few hours. I remember us trying to find Moose in my Father's mini van. After a recommendation, we drove down a dirt road for what seemed like 5 miles. It was pitch black, in the middle of nowhere. The van got a flat tire. We didn't have any flashlights, cellphones, etc. I was pretty nervous, but Gene was still making jokes to keep the situation light. Luckily, another vehicle heading in the opposite direction stopped and shined their lights so we could change the tire. After Gene left the band to start his own projects in MA, we lost track of one another. I was so grateful to be asked to be a part of his benefit gig. It was great to see him after so many years. I will always remember Gene as witty, sarcastic and someone who made us laugh constantly. His showmanship and voice on stage elevated Locomotion to be the band it still is today. I will always look fondly on those years and remember the performer and friend he was. My sincere condolences go out to his family in this unimaginably difficult time.

I am so sorry and heartbroken to hear about Gene. My deepest condolences to Gene’s friends and family. I worked in bands like “Dakota” with Gene in the early nineties and practiced in the basement of his mom’s costume shop. Gene helped form some of the best memories of my life, as he did for everyone he connected with. Such an amazing and talented human. I just learned of his passing and I am writing through tears - I miss you and love you Gene. I will always cherish the memories of our time together. Rest easy my friend.
