Mary was my 2nd mother. I have literally known her my entire life. Mary and Raymond lived a stone’s throw from my parents house, Mary and Bill O’Keefe. Our families were the best of friends - celebrating every single holiday together and many vacations at Ashmere Lake. Having Mary as my 2nd Mom was the best. I watched in awe as she baked the best cookies/desserts. It was through Mary that I learned that delicious baked good could be made from scratch and not just by Entenmann’s. Mary had a sour cherry tree on Border Street and she let me pick the ripe cherries and eat them right off the tree. Oh my! Then, I’d watch her turn those cherries into delicious pie! This was fascinating to me as a child. I remember Mary’s house being the cleanest house I’d ever seen! Mary was also so thoughtful. She sent my father St. Patrick’s Day cards every year to celebrate his Irish heritage! She also remembered my birthday year after year! Mary was always there for me. She supported me during my difficult years and celebrated my good times. My husband, Jim, always felt welcome in Mary’s presence. It was as if she had known him her whole life. Thank you, Mary, for being a mentor, a friend, a baker, and my 2nd Mom. When I last spoke with you on the telephone (to see if you needed anything when Susan & Bill met Carol & Steve in NV) I told you that I loved you. I was fortunate to be the recipient of your warm response “I love you more.” Thank you for your love, Mary. I love you. May you rest in peace with Ray and my parents! My love and condolences to Carol, my bestie, Steve, Susan, Bill, and all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Love, Beth
