Ted was a musical giant with a personality that matched his musical gifts. When Ted was in possession of a microphone, you never knew where things were going to go, and if you were lucky enough to be on the gig with him, it was always a musical treat and a great hang!

I knew Ted as “Pop”. He knew me as “Auntie”. He was grandfather to my great niece and nephews. He was infectiously happy with a sly sense of humor. Both grandparents, Pop and his beautiful wife Darlene were fixtures at family events. Of course I knew of Pop’s musical reputation. The whole family had gone to a gig down in Portsmouth where my nephew sat in on trumpet. Pop was masterful! As a nurse, I had a patient who I saw in his records was a musician. I could not help bragging about my great nephews and their musical prowess. Then I added, that “of course their grandfather is a professional musician”. The patient asked me who that was. I said Ted Casher and he replied “oh, I read his blog”. You could have knocked me over with a feather. Ted…blog…I hardly knew what a blog was and here was Pop with followers. He was just full of surprises! Though he will be sorely missed by both family and friends, he’s left us with many great memories. Love you Pop.

Ted was family. He was loved dearly and will forever be remembered by all who knew him. He was a much admired 'POP' as grandfather to his four grandkids. His children and grandchildren will cherish his memory. Everyone who knew POP loved him. We have many memories to hold on to and are grateful for all of them.

ANOTHER GREAT MUSICIAN JOINS THAT BIG BAND BANDSTAND IN THE CLOUDS. I first met Ted as a teacher at the Rhode Island School Music in 1974. He was a mentor, a teacher and one hell of a sax player. He was also a friend. Never in our wildest dreams did we ever think that Ted would ever be available or ever even want to perform with the Nakeds. When looking for sub for show, someone said jokingly, we should if see if Ted Casher is available! TJ had his number and said, I'll give him a call. Incredibly, Ted's responds was, "I would love to play with you cats!" I know the first time he subbed for us he was in his late 70s and I believe the last time he play with us he was 80 years old. He drove himself to the show and believe or not it was because he had another show earlier that day. The music world has just lost and incredible musician. We have lost a friend! We love you Ted. Thank for your wisdom, sharing your knowledge, your talent, your humor and your friendship. We will miss dearly. From all of us cats, we love you brother. Steve Smith and the Nakeds

During the years I was teaching and playing in Maine and in Boston, Ted was a wonderful role model, a real mentor and a friend at the same time. As a fellow saxophonist - whenever Ted was in the room or on the scene, the level of energy and joy were always noticeably higher. I learned a great deal from hearing him play and watching him deal with fellow musicians - and it always meant a great deal that he supported me with his respect and friendship. I have a copy of his solo record, signed by him, that I'll always treasure. I'll never forget him or his playing. David Demsey

I know we all have fond memories of Ted. He was a singular person and player and inspired me to trust and be myself. The first time I met Ted was back in the Rhode Island School of Music days on Branch Avenue in Providence in 1973. I was a full-time student there and doing work-study which meant cleaning up and hanging out all day and many nights. On one of the nights when Hal Crook's "Animal Band", his small big-band, was rehearsing while I was hanging out to hear this amazing original music in walked Ted to join the band. It was the winter and he had on a Russian Cossack hat, and a big dark winter coat touting his full beard and carrying his horns. In typical Ted fashion he was vocalizing his entrance with his low frequency speech, that I couldn't fully understand, which characterized him perfectly !! Then, of course, he took out his horns and blew me away. After that encounter I wanted to study with him and he became my Harmony and private teacher while we were on Branch Avenue. Great memories of a one-of-a-kind human with a huge heart and mind. Sad to see him go. Dan Moretti

It was at Teds Birthday party at Martinis in Plymouth that we met Ted and Velma. We became immeadiate friends and in 2015 when Ted booked a gig in Ft Myers Florida, Ted and Vel stayed with us. We went to the National Seashore and I have pix I will post. And then we attended an open Mike night at Heidi’s Jazz Club in Cocoa Beach near our winter home. Ted joined the band when I was invited to sing a few and then after finding out that the pianist and another sit in sax man were Berklee grads, Ted headlined several numbers. More cement to our love fest highlighted by dinners in Bridgewater and Duxbury. We loved it when we could catch Ted with such as Bill and Bo Winiker We celebrate this great musician and friend who I now believe jams with Sis Rebecca Parris and George Mesterhazy. Our love to Vel and family. Our memories are our treasures. RIP brother.

Ted was a tremendous man well before his time. He was intelligent and compassionate and incredibly talented I was very lucky to have him for a teacher at Cranston east. My parents loved him and he loves them. I took my wife to see him many times . That man had a heart of gold and a huge soul. One of my great times in my life my son played in a big band with him years ago and he gave him many great words of wisdom and how good he was as he went on to play for many great musicians. Although he was mad at me for not playing anymore! I told him I had passed it on to my son! And he approved. I will never meet a man like that and I feel very fortunate to call him my friend. God bless your music always is with me!

I only had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Casher once but his joyful nature and his zest for life were readily apparent. As a close friend of his daughter Lisa, I heard many stories over the years about her beloved "Pop." He was an amazingly accomplished musician and an even more amazing father and grandfather. My heart goes out to all of the Casher children and their families. He was fortunate to have his daughter Lisa's expertise as an RN as she advocated for her father's medical needs during his failing health. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Vel, I am so sorry to learn of Ted's passing. It was lovely to finally meet him in person in Newport, RI a few years back when he was playing at an event I attended at one of the mansions. He was a lovely man and he was lucky to have had you, as you were to have had so many years with him. You obviously filled each other with so much joy. May his memory be a blessing. In sympathy and love, Joni

I had many gigs and moments with Ted, but not nearly enough. He was an inexhaustible source of musical content and creativity. Sometime in the 1980's we did a regular five hour brunch (trio) at a hotel, for Al Tobias. The last tune would have the same energy as the first. And his warmth and sense of humor, whether expressed in music or words, buoyed everyone around him. Every time we met up, when the setting was just right, we knew that we'd play our version of Stan Getz and Johnny Smith's 'Moonlight in Vermont.' And as great as that was, his Don Byas-derived tenor sound was the real deal and maybe his 'home base.' I'm sure his beautiful spirit affected others as much as it did me, including many great musicians in our vicinity. He played in a sophisticated way, but always FOR THE PEOPLE.

10-8-23 I was so saddened to just learn of Ted’s passing. Amazing musician and teacher - he was our son’s jazz band teacher (our son played sax!) at Ponaganset years ago and we were FB friends for years. Sent him a FB message just two weeks ago while in CA on vacation - our waitress had an uncle who grew up in RI and likely played with it at least knew Ted. Our deepest condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed
