It was the summer of 1961 when I met Charlie a a laborer working for John Gallaher, member of the BC national Champs in 1949. John was Charlie's high school coach. We also had another of Charlie's team mate, John Callahan, working with us. We were in Cohasset clearing land, lugging materials, and cleaning up among many other chores. Charlie attacked all of those jobs aggressively and with the gusto that he carried with him through life. Whenever I saw him at games and around town he made you feel as if you were the most important person he'd ever met. Although I haven't seen him in years, I always felt I had a friend for life. I know you folks will miss him as will many others.

Paul, Mary and I are so sorry. Charlie’s success on the ice was legendary in Charlestown. He was a true inspiration to dozens, and perhaps even more, young “Townies” RIP Charlie

Charles, I could write a book but most importantly I just want to say thank you. The McCarthy family always had my back and supported me when frankly I was prob someone who was hard to root for. You took me into your home and welcomed me with open arms. You were the first coach I had that instilled confidence in me and gave me the belief that I could should reach for the stars. On our journey we had so many great memories and laughs and those memories will be with me for the rest of my life!!! I could go on and on. Dottie, Katy, Lizzy, and Mikey..... Thank you!!!! Smith

Dear McCarthy, I am deeply sorry about the death of a great father, uncle, grandfather, as well as a great hockey coach. I will miss my godfather.

So sorry to hear of Charlie passing. We spent many a night at the old Boston Garden watching high school hockey when the tournament came around. Jackie Sullivan was with us too. He was so proud when Michael was playing for CM. He will be missed in Charlestown and I will miss his stories. He had a great life and loved his family. RIP John Grzelcyk
