I will always remember our chats in the hallway outside our offices. He was a good friend and colleague. I miss him very much! May peace be with his family and all of his friends.

Dr. Guarino was an excellent professor that knew his stuff, and connected with his students to take them to higher levels of learning. I admired his knowledge of economics in particular, and his very logical thought process about issues of the day, over the 10 years that we worked together at Averett University. He had first-hand knowledge of working in the chemical industry, and applied that work experience to his academic endeavors.. I greatly respected his academic credentials. He will be missed by many, especially students that could have learned a great deal from him. A very good person has left us. Wish I could have known him better.

I just recently learned of John's passing and am very sad to hear the news. It's been many years since I saw him last. But his outstanding academic and professional career is no surprise. But what I will remember most is all the things we did growing up on Pleasant Street. Baseball at Springdale playground, Ice hockey on the ponds and whiffleball at "Trayers Arena". We had a lot of fun times. My condolences to all of the Guarino family.
