Cookie was born on July 28, 1923 in Aiken County, South Carolina to the late Hubert E. Cooke Sr. and Nona Mitchell Cooke Brown.

Following graduation from Windsor High School, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. During that time, he met and married his wife of 75 years, Alice Miller Cooke. Cookie enjoyed hunting with his bird dogs and beagles, fishing, working in his yard and watching Braves baseball. He never met a stranger and will be missed by his many friends. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Cookie was predeceased by his stepfather Harry M. Brown; and his stepbrother, Horace M. Brown.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at Chadbourn Presbyterian Church. Visitation will follow the service at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; his son, Hubert (Barbara) of Augusta, Ga.; his grandsons, Andy (Katelyn) Cooke and Ben (Lori) Cooke, both of Augusta, Ga.; his granddaughter Beth Sellars (John Paul) of Lexington, S.C.; and six great-grandchildren, Miller, Mattox, Matthew, Luke, Rollin and Troupe.
