John (MAC) D. MacBain, Jr. age 80, of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully Sunday night, March 28, 2021 at the Oakhill Nursing Home in Middleboro. Born August 28, 1940, in Lewiston, Maine, he was the son of the late John D. and Claire E. (Boulay) MacBain.

John attended Hanover High School and Tabor Academy graduating in 1959. He was a proud graduate of Norwich University (1964) and went on to earn his Masters of Education from Bridgewater State College in 1965. John was devoted to helping people and always had a special place in his heart for children who came from challenging communities providing guidance and support whenever he had the opportunity. He started his professional career teaching at the Bridgewater Correctional Institute and continued teaching for over 33 years specializing in special needs, educating the students of New Bedford, Marshfield, North Attleboro and Brockton. He retired from the Brockton Public School System in 1998 last working at the Ithaka Alternative School. While teaching he coached high school softball and ice hockey for many years and then officiated softball, basketball and soccer.

John loved being outdoors and stayed busy in the summers helping his parents run Camp Equi-Aqua for over 20 years and then starting his own business, Big M Landscaping. When he wasn’t working he found peace relaxing in the sun, especially at the beach. He also enjoyed playing softball, cards, pool, skiing, jogging, lifting weights and had a love for horses. John was a loyal New England sports fan and would never turn down the opportunity to be on the sidelines coaching and watching his children and grandchildren compete.

John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ann M. (Henschel) MacBain; three children: Lisa and her husband Ralph Roberts of Lakeville, MA, Sarah and her husband Vance Wilkerson of Hanover, MD, and John Christopher MacBain and his longtime girlfriend Jaye Jenkins of Reno, NV; six grandchildren: Jessica (Roberts) and her husband Corey Raji, Austin Roberts, Savanah Wilkerson, Vanesah Wilkerson, Bria Moss-Wilkerson and Chad Wilkerson.
