
Quento Panciera, age 91, of Old Mystic, CT died at his home on January 24, 2011.
He was born in Old Mystic, CT on January 31, 1919, the son of Matteo and Lucy (Pasqualin) Panciera. He married the former Phyllis E. Perkins on June 1, 1943. Mrs. Panciera died October 4, 1996.
Quento was employed by Electric Boat as a machinist, retiring in 1985 after 29 years of service. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army 3476th Ordinance Medium Automotive Maintenance Company from 1942 until he was honorably discharged in 1945. While serving his country Staff Sargeant Panciera participated in five major campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) and Central Europe. He was awarded The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with a Silver Star Pin, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII and a Meritorious Unit Award.
He was a member of the Amancio, Gaccione, Falcone VFW Post #8955, Westerly RI.
He is survived by a daughter Susan E. Barber and her husband John; a son Quento W. "Danny" Panciera and his wife Robin (Rosso) all of Stonington, CT; 2 granddaughters Heather E. Madison of Middletown, CT and Robynne E. Madison-Miceli (John) of Pawcatuck, CT; 2 great grandsons; a special niece Amy L. Richards (Kenneth, Sr.) and her daughter Lisa Stearns (Chris) and her son Kenneth Richards, Jr. (Geraldine) all of Old Mystic and several other nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his four brothers, Mario, Frank, Henry (Buffalo) and Perigrine (Pat) Panciera and his sister Elizabeth Holmes.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday from 5-7pm. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11AM (Not 1pm as printed in Wednesday's edition of The New London Day). The Rev. Mark Porizky will officiate. Burial with presentation of military honors will be at Elm Grove Cemetery.
