Honorable Armand Capistran Chief Justice
Manchester– Armand Capistran 81,died April 18, 2007 at Villa Crest Health Care Center following a period of declining health.
He was born in Manchester on November 19, 1925, the son of Aime and Lucie (Levesque) Capistran.
He graduated from St. George Grammar School, St. Joseph High School for Boys, St Anselm College, class of 1948. He received his Master's Degree in French from Universite de Laval, in P.Q. Canada, in 1952, and Masters in law from Boston University Law School in 1957.
He served his country as a Corporal in the U. S. Army.
He was a member of the N.H.State Legislature, fifty year member of both the N.H Bar Association, Manchester Bar Association. He was appointed Judge of the Manchester District Court by Governor Walter Peterson in 1970 and served until his retirement in 1995. He was also a long time Secretary of Club Richelieu , Past President of Club Jolliet, member of Centre Franco– Americain, Franco-Americain Historical Association and Society for French History in America, American Legion Jutras Post,NH Historical Society, and Manchester Historic Association.
Family members include his wife Cecile (Richard) Capistran of Manchester, 3 sons Conrad Capistran of East Hampton MA, Charles Capistran of Manchester, Richard Capistran of Derry, and one daughter Celeste Ciesla of Villa Park, IL, 12 grandchildren, and several nephews.
Services: Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 9 pm at J. N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home 110 Bridge St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 am in St Anthony of Padua Church, Belmont St . Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Club Richelieu to benefit L’enfance Malheureuse, 270 Amory St. Unit #19 Manchester NH 03102.
