Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Lane Dente (Bob), who passed away on April 21, 2024, at the age of 84. On that day, he succumbed to a long bout of illness with kidney disease.

Bob was born in Barre, Vermont on December 11, 1939, to Nelson Dente and Louise Dente (Sullivan), who preceded him in death. His sister, Mary Louise Norton, also preceded him in death.

Bob was a graduate of the University of Vermont. He was a Disabled Army Veteran, who served and loved his country. After leaving the Army, Bob settled in Duxbury, Massachusetts with his wife Phyllis Dente (Wadsworth) and lived in town for over 60 years. He was a Marshfield High School math teacher and Real Estate Broker in Duxbury. He was President of the Kawanis Club and coached Little League Baseball. He was an avid Duxbury historian and conducted research for many of the date boards on old houses in town.

After retirement, Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Thomas and Nathan, and became affectionately known as “Papa” instead of Bob. He truly took joy in watching his grandson, Thomas, grow up and helped nurture him into the fine young man he is today. He affectionately referred to him as his “best friend Thomas”.

Robert Dente is survived by his wife Phyllis, sons Robert and Kevin, daughters by marriage Dawn Radcliffe and Buffy Bush, and his grandsons Thomas and Nathan Dente.

The family will hold a small gathering of family and friends to be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
