Laura C. Ruta, 102

Laura C. (Coffin) Ruta, age 102, of Norton, passed away peacefully, in the presence of her loving family on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at the Alliance Health at Maples in Wrentham. She was the beloved wife of the late Dominic Ruta, who died on March 28, 2008.

Born in St. John’s, New Brunswick, Canada on January 2, 1922, she was a loving daughter of the late Charles A. Coffin and Laura A. (Martin Dingee.

Laura spent her childhood growing up in Brunswick, Maine. Her family later moved to Dorchester, where she was educated in Boston Public Schools. A resident of Norton for over sixty years, Laura was a dedicated homemaker to her adoring family and was also a former employee at the former Fernandes Supermarkets and Texas Instruments.

Laura’s family, whom she loved dearly, were always the focal point of her life and the pleasure she received being a grandmother and great grandmother was unmeasurable. Laura enjoyed playing bingo, reading, crocheting and socializing with friends at the Norton Senior Center. Laura lived a long and remarkable life and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her devoted children: Barbara Laffoley of Brunswick, Maine, June Cauldwell and her husband Greg of Mount Vernon, Maine, Christopher Ruta and his wife Therese of Norton, Laura Keene and her husband Guy of Norton, and the late Janet Freedman, Theresa Ruta and Daniel Freedman, who is survived by his wife Sandra Freedman of Norton. She was the cherished grandmother of Juliana, Brady, Steven, Michelle, Nathan, Katherine, Alyssa, Christopher, Elizabeth Daniel, Zachary and Alexandria and the great grandmother of 10. She was the dear sister of the late Charles Coffin, James Coffin, Floyd Coffin, Ethel Rogers, Helen Colarusso, Robert Coffin and is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews. She was the former wife of the late David Freedman.

Services, along with burial, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.

Visiting hours are omitted and those wishing may remember Laura with a donation in her memory made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
