Obituary

William J. Steinhauser of West Roxbury, formerly of Brookline, passed away on April 11, 2024. Beloved husband of Maureen A. (McCarthy) Steinhauser. Devoted father of William J. Steinhauser and his wife Karen of Franklin, Joseph Steinhauser and his wife Lorraine of Millis, and Karen Selevitch of Revere. Loving grandfather of Sara Selevitch of CA and Steven Selevitch of Revere. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bill was a graduate of Brookline High School, Class of 1948; where he was a cross country athlete. In 1947, he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves and the United States Army Reserves, totaling 10 years of service.

He worked in the supermarket industry as a grocery manager for many years. After his retirement, he continued to work part-time in a store and then at a country club for another 7 years.

Bill was a member of the John P. Burns American Legion Post 36 in Hyde Park.

Bill enjoyed camping, going on cruises, vacationing at resorts in the Caribbean and spending his summers in Cape Cod. He loved the times he spent with his family.

Bill was an avid sports fan. He often recalled his days as a young boy turning the turnstile for admission to Braves Field and being a batboy for the Boston Braves.

Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury, Tuesday, April 16th at 9:00am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Theresa of Avila Church at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment Gethsemane Cemetery, West Roxbury.
Visiting Hours, Monday, April 15th from 4:00 to 8:00pm in the Funeral Home.
