Elba Ilia Roman, 74, of Weymouth, MA, passed away on April 10, 2024, at South Shore Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Elba was born May 21, 1949, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, to the late Valeriana Valle Rosario and Paulino Roman Valentin. She was the fourth youngest of five children. Three preceded her in death: Carmelo, Anibal, and Luis Roman. Also preceding her death was her son, Wilson Rodriguez.
Elba was a very independent person who always went out of her way to help people out, even when she was going through her struggles, because that's the type of person she was. She enjoyed painting and making beautiful art canvases, and she would take art classes in the community center in Weymouth. Also, she likes to sew and make cute
throw pillows, dresses, pants, shirts, and many other things, including mending clothes for her family, friends, and neighbors. Elba enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino as much as possible. Elba was also a great cook who always cooked whenever company came over or for her son's get-together cookouts and holidays. People truly enjoyed all the food that she prepared. Elba enjoyed watching spanish novelas (soap operas) and then calling her sister to talk about what was happening. Somehow, those conversations would last for hours and hours, and they would only hang up the phone at two or three o'clock in the morning. But most of all, she loved spending time with her sons, family, and friends.
Elba's legacy lives on through her son, Hiram Rodriguez of Rockland, and daughter in law Cindy Buscemi, her only sister, Carmen Roman, of Boston, MA, and many nieces, nephews, family, friends, and others whose lives Elba touched.
Elba will be missed and never forgotten. She was a wonderful woman who loved life and her family, and her fight with cancer taught us to never give up on life. Our love for her will live on in our memories and hearts forever.
