Obituary

Mattie Bell Roland Rogers, 96, of the West Berrien Community passed away Monday, April 8, 2024, at Southwell Medical Center in Tifton. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Rogers on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Berrien County, where she will be laid to rest. The Rev. Freddie Stone and the Rev. Ronnie Lawson will officiate. Mrs. Rogers’ son-in-law, Clarence Spires, will offer a eulogy.

Mrs. Rogers’ grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Rogers was born on December 28, 1927, in Nashville, Georgia and she was the daughter of the late George and Martha Price Roland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie D. Rogers, who passed away on May 26, 2000; a grandson. Matt Rogers; four brothers, William Henry Roland, Luther Roland, Julian Roland, and G. C. Roland; and six sisters, Olive Roland, Myrtle Roland, Maudell Rouse, Ludell Rutherford, Cathrine Harper, and Geneva Roland. She was a member of Vickers Church in the West Berrien Community.

Mrs. Rogers farmed alongside her husband for many years. She enjoyed cooking and working in her yard. She was a homemaker and a devoted Christian, who enjoyed reading her Bible and taught Sunday school for several years.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by one daughter, Carol (Clarence) Spires of Valdosta; and two sons, Charles (Sandra) Rogers and Sammy (Mary) Rogers, both of the West Berrien Community; seven granddaughters, Sheri (Alan) Gordon of Valdosta, Jessica (Fiance’ Chris Efaw) Packer of Tifton, Charley (Kyle) Nowicki of Atlanta, Mandy (Randy) Luke, Kaycee (Chris) Whitley, Angie (Wade) Rice and Heather (Clint) Phillips, all of the West Berrien Community; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson; Mrs. Rogers has a great-grandson and a great-great grandson due to arrive soon. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
