Obituary

Robert F. Joy “Bob,” age 93, of Brockton, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Jeanne (Brown) Joy. They were married for seventy-three years.

Born and raised in Brockton, Bob was the son of the late Carlyle B. Joy, Sr. and Mildred L. (Fisher) Joy. He was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1948. Bob served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. Robert worked as a lineman and supervisor for Brockton Edison Company now known as National Grid for forty-six years, retiring on March 31, 1995.

Family life was especially important to Bob. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather with a gentle and humble nature. He enjoyed both playing and watching golf, repairing golf clubs, reading, working on puzzles, cooking, and was an avid sports fan, especially football, basketball, and baseball.

Besides his wife, he leaves his children: Stephen Joy of Brockton, Michael Joy and his wife Linda of East Bridgewater, Robert M. Joy of Tewksbury, and Kathy Joy and her husband Matthew Kowalski of Weymouth; his seven grandchildren: Lauren Sullivan and her husband Kevin, Kara Lizardi and her husband Christian, Adam Joy and his wife Katherine, Marianne Joy and her husband Michael Gomes, Daniel Joy, Toni Joy and Matthew Kowalski; seven great grandchildren: Madison, Mackenzie and Delaney Sullivan, Leah and Emma Lizardi, Caroline and Margaret Joy; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was the father-in-law of the late Marilyn Joy and brother of the late Carlyle B. Joy, Jr. and Eleanor Garbitt.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his funeral service on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:00 am, at the funeral home, followed by his interment with military honors in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
