James Hutchinson
Founder & Owner of James Hutchinson & Son Carpentry


TEWKSBURY: James Hutchinson, age 85, a resident of Tewksbury for 58 years, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Monday, April 1, 2024 with his family at his side.

He was the beloved husband of Margaret I. (Gray) Hutchinson, with whom he would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on August 31, 2024.

Born in Glenboig, North Lanarkshire, Scotland on July 29, 1938, he was the son of the late William J. Hutchinson and the late Selina G. (Williamson) Hutchinson.

James was raised in the village Glenboig, Scotland and graduated from the area high school.

He later served in the British Army as a member of the Scots Guard Regiment. During his military service he was assigned to Buckingham Palace and later served in Germany.

In 1965, he settled in Tewksbury where he and his wife raised their five children.

James was an accomplished finish carpenter. He founded and successfully operated James Hutchinson & Son Carpentry until his retirement.

He was a former member of the St. Matthew’s Masonic Lodge in Andover as well as the Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington.

James enjoyed following sports such as the Glasgow Rangers, Boston Bruins and New England Patriots as well as watching interesting shows on the History Channel. He was always quick with fun facts about history.

Besides his wife Margaret, he leaves his five children, Yvonne Hutchinson, Karen Kennedy & her husband Jason, Andrea Inzana, Kenneth Hutchinson & his wife Maura, and Shona Rhine & her husband Tim: eight grandchildren, Johnny, Nicholas, Brooke, Samantha, McKenzie, Drew, Julia, and Erica: six great grandchildren, Riley, Daniel, Thomas, Matthew, Christopher, and Cameron.
James was predeceased by his siblings William, May, Margaret, Jemima, and Robert.
He leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members residing in Scotland.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, April 5th, from 5-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. By request of the family, there are No Funeral Services planned.
