Obituary

John Hunter passed away in Northampton on March 21 after battling liver cancer for two years.

He was born July 18, 1963 and grew up in Westwood, MA. After high school, he earned an Associate’s Degree from Bunker Hill Community College in Human Services. He held several jobs in the Human Services field in the Boston area, including as an attendant at a nursing facility and direct care worker for people with disabilities. John moved to Western Mass in 2001 to be closer to his then girlfriend, sister Jennifer and nieces Maryana and Kayleigh. He spent a good amount of time with his nieces as they grew; they always enjoyed his laid back, up-for-whatever nature.

He worked several more jobs over the years including receptionist at the Dept of Mental Health and Service Net, an agency that provides services for people with brain diseases in W Mass. As the result of a very hard childhood, John endured some challenging times and became a Service Net client. He lived in several of their housing facilities, the most recent in Amherst. John got along with everyone and made friends effortlessly wherever he went. Things weren't always easy for him, but he tried to make the best of what life gave him and maintain a positive attitude. He was accepting, understanding, appreciative and kind.

John took pleasure in simple things like classic movies and tv shows; the original Star Trek, Andy Griffith and Bonanza were some of his favorites. Marvel comics and movies were also well loved. His Captain America t-shirt was one of his favorites. His favorite meal was a simple baked chicken, Rice A Roni and peas.

John leaves behind his sisters Jennifer and Julie, brothers Bruce and Jim, brother-in-law Scott and his two nieces. He was predeceased by his sister Laurie, brother David and parents Judith and Richard.

We will miss you, John.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 10 in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin at 4:00p.m.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3:00-4:00p.m.
